Who is a Gambian Diaspora?
Gambians in the diaspora are people of Gambian nationality and/or descents who have migrated to or were born and live in other countries, who share a common identity and sense of belonging to The Gambia.
Diaspora Engagement Strategy
The Diaspora Engagement Strategy under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad is a tool to enable the government to facilitate structured and optimal interface with Gambians in the diaspora in mobilizing diaspora investment, creating a diaspora development fund, promoting both circular and labor migration and mainstreaming diaspora expertise in the socio-economic development of The Gambia.
Remittances
Remittances remain one of the most important forms of development finance in The Gambia. Consequently, the Ministry of Finance, Central Bank of The Gambia and the Migration and Sustainable Development in The Gambia project (MSDG) convened regular technical roundtables to discuss improvements in policy and practice.
Investment Opportunities
The Gambia Investment & Export Promotion Agency (GIEPA) is the national agency established by an Act of Parliament in July 2010 responsible for the promotion and facilitation of private sector investments into The Gambia.
Skills Transfer Opportunitiesโ
The role of the Gambian diaspora is very critical and crucial in promoting sustainable development in The Gambia. In view of the capacity gaps identified within the Public Service, Gambians in the diaspora with requisite skills and competencies are highly considered to collaborate with the government in transferring skills on a short- term basis.
